New Realities in Care
For years, applied behavior analysis (ABA) has been the standard behavioral therapy for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities. Traditionally it was thought that comprehensive ABA therapy requires 25-40 hours of paraprofessional-led care. Recent research shows individuals can make clinically meaningful progress with much fewer hours. At Catalight, we truly believe one size doesn’t fit all. Research from Catalight and other industry leaders is demonstrating alternative ABA modalities can produce similar—or better—outcomes with greater flexibility and less stress for the entire family. Since changes were made to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) a decade ago, the population of people with an autism diagnosis has grown tremendously and represents an incredibly heterogenous group of people. In fact, more than a quarter of children diagnosed are on the severe end of the spectrum.
