A self-assessment that measures quality of life Clients and their families can complete our Wellbeing Scales to help us understand their perception of their child’s treatment and their ability to teach their child learned interventions. Wellbeing is defined as the measure of a person’s overall happiness, satisfaction with life and positive outlook on life. As an outcome measure, it can be used both moment-to-moment and over time. Plus, wellbeing is a measurable umbrella outcome that carries across the highly diverse ASD and I/DD populations – across levels of abilities, social circumstances, family dynamics, cognitive abilities, mental health and much more. Scale Overview Catalight believes that wellbeing also better identifies progress in areas that can make a lifetime impact on an individual and their family, rather than short-term goals that may not be as impactful to the person or their family. To offer a well-rounded set of measures, Catalight researchers developed Wellbeing Scales based on ten years of real-world ASD and I/DD care data. Catalight’s Wellbeing Scales have 15 questions and take five minutes or less to complete. The scales measure three dimensions of wellbeing: self-determination, relationships and the ability to self-manage or manage the family. The other key element of wellbeing as an outcome measure is it helps providers keep the big picture in mind—every intervention should support client and family wellbeing while delivering positive outcomes with quality of care, rather than quantity of care. Every six months, our clients and their families complete a Wellbeing Scale so we can evaluate progress. Leveraging one of the largest collections of real-world clinical data focused on developmental disabilities, The Parental Stress Scale, originally developed by Berry and Jones in 1995 were adapted by Catalight researchers for the I/DD population by reducing the number of questions to achieve an effective measure of parental stress. The 15-question self-assessment takes just minutes to complete and evaluates parental stress. Results provide indicators for stress ranging from average, moderate or clinically significant. The other key element of measuring parental stress is it leads to effective and accurate interventions, delivering positive outcomes for the entire family. Every six months, Catalight families complete the assessment so we can evaluate progress.
